    On "St.Petersburg Open`98" in the main list started the representatives of following countries: 6 - French, Germany, 3 - Sweden, Czech Republic and Italy, 2 - Slovakia, Russia, 1 - Holland, Switzerland, Romania, Austria, Spain, Belgium and RSA.

    The most interesting today was the game between two French - Fabrice Santoro and Arnaud Boetsch. First set of the game was very equal, and only in the second Santoro defeated his old friend -7-6(7-4) 6-3. Then Olivier Delaitre, the king of the qualify (in 1997 he won 8 qualifying tournaments) was stronger then Gerome Golmard 7-5 6-1.

    The last French who reached the next round was Cedric Pioline who won Markos Ondruska - 7-5 6-2.

    Mark Goellner was losing to Juan A.Marin in the second set 3-5, but then he saved the set and won all the game - 6-4 7-5.

    Only two matches today were played from three sets, Johan Van after losing first set,then won two others - 3-6 6-3 6-4, and later Iens Knippschild won Radomir Vasek 6-7 6-3 6-3.

    So, all five "seeded players" who were on the court today defeated there opponents.There are still four games left to play in the first round All of them seems to be interesting.Tomorrow,at 1.P.M. M.Damm will fight with D.Prinosil, then D.Vacek against Last year runner-up -R.Furlan. At 4.30 P.M.Wimbledon`96 champion - Richard Krajicek will play with Jan Kroslak.,and a little bit later at 6.30 P.M. will be the game between Mark Rosset and Artem Tchernenko.

    Also ,tomorrow, two matches from the second round will be played: T.Johansson - D.Sanguinetti, F.Santoro - J.Bachelot.
